December is the perfect time to curl up at home with a new story, especially during winter break.  Here are a few suggestions:

The Bear in the Book
by Kate Banks

While a little boy gets ready for bedtime by choosing a favorite book for his mother to read to him, a young bear prepares for deep hibernation under a snowy landscape, in a parallel story that features soft, rhythmic text and evocative illustrations. Great for a cold winter's night!

These Bees Count!
by Alison Formento

These Bees Count is a terrific book that intertwines counting and non-fiction information about bees into a wonderful story.

Zelda the Varigoose
by Sebastian Loth

Who is Zelda the varigoose? Is she a bee or a giraffe?  Butterfly, squid, whale?  This unique book's transparent pages will let you see the different combinations.  You will have lots of fun transforming Zelda.

Liar & Spy
by Rebecca Stead

Seventh grader Georges moves into a Brooklyn apartment building and meets Safer, a twelve-year-old self-appointed spy. Georges becomes Safer's first spy recruit. His assignment? Tracking the mysterious Mr. X, who lives in the apartment upstairs. A fresh and funny chapter book.

The Vengekeep Prophecies

Jaxter Grimjinx is a born thief.  For generations, the Grimjinx clan has produced the swiftest, cleverest thieves in Vengekeep. The problem is, Jaxter is clumsy. So clumsy that he sets the Castellan's house on fire and lands his family in jail. Even Jaxter's skill for breaking magical locks can't get them out of this bind.
