November Is Picture Book Month

Picture Book month is an international literacy initiative that celebrates the print picture book during the month of November.

Some favorite children's authors share below their thoughts about the wonder of picture books...

Some picture books are so magical, they define childhood. -Dianne de Las Casas

Picture books only require two things:  a reader and a listener.  Together you have magic. - Tammi Sauer

A child can have too many toys, but never enough books. -
Jarrett Krosoczka, author of the Lunch Lady series

New in the Parent Collection

Remember to check out our Parent Collection located in the adult section.  The collection includes books written at a child's level as well as resources for adults interested in learning more about a specific topic. It is filled with great resources on a variety of topics.

We have books on:
  • Adoption
  • Bereavement
  • Bullying
  • Separation anxiety
  • Sibling issues and so much more.
A new addition to the collection is Arlo Needs Glasses by Barney Saltzberg.  One in five school-age children needs glasses.  Arlo's story will help children ease the transition into their first pair of glasses.

"Every child who wears glasses will know just how Arlo feels and will feel better because of it.  In this inventive, interactive picture book, kids get to do just what Arlo does to solve his problem.  They read an eye chart, look through a fold out phoropter (that big machine optometrists use), and try on different pair of glasses--movie star glasses! superhero glasses! mad-scientist glasses! Arlo rediscovers how to be the best ball catcher in the neighborhood and picks up a new favorite pastime--reading."
